It was the lake that since neolithic times, gave rise to human establishement, not on the water itself as believed for a long time, but on its marshy shores. Man was attracted by the possibilities of fishing and navigation. The main activity of fisching diminished with the passing centuries, though the commercial navigation activities continued to be very important, reaching a peakin the first half of the last century. Since them the lake plays a very different role in giving the lake side districts a place in the forefront of tourist activity.Today, thanks to the continual supervision Lake Annecy has become the cleanest in Europe. Its length is 14 km and the deepest point is 83 ( at the point of Puyat between Annecy and Sevrier). The lake is ideal for water sports. The water reaches a temperature of 24°C in summer, there are many beaches, supervised or free. For fishermen : Daily, fortnightly or annual licences for fishing. The principal fishes that can be caught on the lake : l'Omble Chevalier, La Féra, Le Brochet, La Carpe and many small fryng fishes (Goujon, Ablette, Verrons, etc....). Signal (flashing ligths) placed around the lake, indicate risks of storms, and agreable the lake can be dangerous if one not respect the safty rules. Take care !
